Glossary

Air Volume Control - Maintains the air charge in a standard water storage tank. Pre-charged tanks do not require an air volume control.

Check Valve - Allows water to move in only one direction which prevents water from returning to its source.

Discharge Head - The difference in elevation between the liquid level of the discharge tank and the centerline of the pump. This head also includes any additional pressure head that may be present at the discharge tank fluid surface.

Effluent - Water mixed with waste matter.

Foot Valve - Installs on end of pump suction pipe to prevent water from draining back to source. Includes strainer to minimize suction of debris into pump.

GPH - Gallons per hour. Flow rate measurement.

GPM - Gallons per minute. Flow rate measurement.

Grey-Water - Wastewater from household baths and washing machines that is recycled especially for use in gardening or for flushing toilets.

Hermetic - Completely sealed, especially against the escape or entry of ai

Impeller - The rotating element of a pump which imparts movement and pressure to a fluid

NEMA - National Electrical Manufacturers Association.

NPS(Discharge) - Nonpoint Source pollution: nutrients,. sediments, toxic substances, and pathogens that degrade waterways. NPS occurs mainly through stormwater runoff.

Pre-Charged Tank - A water storage tank pre-charged with air at factory featuring a vinyl bag to separate water from air which prevents waterlogging. This tank design provides greater drawdown than standard tanks. Pre-charged tanks do not require air volume control.

Volute - Spiral casing.
